FIFA 99
While the indoor mode was no longer featured, the gameplay's fluidity and responsiveness was increased. The increasing number of websites dedicated to the game and a larger number of leagues (the Malaysian league was removed, and on its stead came two new leagues: the Belgian First Division and the Portuguese Liga; this came to be a problem when the owners of the rights to the Primeira Liga tried to pull the game from the shelves locally). Graphically, it is a major improvement over FIFA '98, with the inclusion of basic facial animations and different players' heights as well as certain other cosmetic features such as improved kits and emblems, although they are unlicensed. Gamers may also create their own custom cups and leagues and select the teams they wish to participate.
FIFA 99 also features an elite league called the "European Dream League" in which 20 top teams from across Europe battle it out in a league format. It was also the first game to feature a block containing teams which did not pertain to any of the main leagues (back then, it was known as "Rest of Europe" since all teams were European, the vast majority of them featured either in the 1998-99 season of the UEFA Cup or Champions League).

Star Trek: Armada 2
Star Trek: Armada II is a real time strategy video game published by Activision in 2001, based upon the Star Trek universe. The game was developed by Mad Doc Software. It is the sequel to Star Trek: Armada. Star Trek: Armada II was released by Activision a year after they acquired the full rights to all the franchise holding of the video game's franchise from Viacom. It was the first of the three major Star Trek video game sequel titles that were released by Activision from 2001 until their departure from the franchise in 2003.
Like its predecessor, Armada II is set in the Star Trek: The Next Generation era of the Star Trek universe. The game showcases events in the Alpha Quadrant between the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, the Cardassian Union, Species 8472, and the Borg.
Plot
Set just six months after the events of Star Trek: Armada, the Borg once again threaten the Alpha Quadrant. They have created a new ship capable of assimilating entire worlds in just a few seconds. After routing the attempted foothold, Captain Picard discovers a new type of nebula - a tachyon nebula. Intrigued, Picard discovers a new type of transwarp gate called a Transwarp Portal, capable of sending fleets of starships from one quadrant to another almost instantly, thus giving reason as to how the Borg managed to get so deep into the Alpha Quadrant undetected. Starfleet Command then orders Picard to seize control of it and launch a counteroffensive into the heart of Borg space in the Delta Quadrant, into the Borg staging grounds. Though successful, some of the Federation forces, Picard included, are left stranded when the Transwarp Portal collapses due to a destabilization of the inter-spatial transwarp manifolds.Meanwhile, the Cardassians use the sudden absence of Federation forces to begin their own offensive. The Cardassians proceed to destroy the Federation's reserve fleet. Klingon Chancellor Martok discovers that Gul Kentar, leader of the Cardassian uprising, is in league with the Romulans. Kentar is developing the "Quantum Singularity" that allows the Cardassians to summon Species 8472 ships at will. Martok leads an attempt to thwart Kentar's grab for power and destroy the project. The Klingons stop the Cardassian rebellion and occupy their homeworld, Cardassia Prime. In the final battle, Martok tracks down and kills Gul Kentar, taking out the Quantum Singularity Project along the way.
The Borg Queen, stranded in the Alpha Quadrant by the same twist of fate that trapped Picard on her side of the galaxy, discovers that Species 8472 has found a way into the Alpha Quadrant. She attempts to mass an armada to suppress this threat by assimilating native species planets, ships and technologies, but its growth is stunted by the constant attacks from the Federation. She then realizes that only by working with the Federation they can defeat Species 8472. The Federation and the Borg Collective create an alliance and venture into Species 8472's fluidic space to destroy their staging grounds by destroying the Rift Maker, thus ending the threat to the Alpha Quadrant by closing all the rifts.
The game ends with the two sides parting ways, the Klingons asserting control over the Cardassians and order, somewhat, returning to the galaxy.
Star Trek: Armada II employs many of the same features of its predecessor, though with a few improvements. The crew resource can now be gathered by creating planet-based colonies in addition to Starbases, as opposed to the bonus given for placing Starbases near planets in the first game. Depending on the type of planet, establishing a colony can produce crew at a far higher rate for a much lower cost, though colonies sacrifice defense for efficiency.
Two new resources are also added: latinum and metal. Metal is mined from planets and balances out the dilithium costs in the first game. Latinum can be traded at trading stations for metal and dilithium, and is essential to research structures. The Klingons, Romulans, and Cardassians rely heavily on latinum, while the Federation has very little use for it. The Borg eschew latinum completely; they do not trade with other species, they assimilate them. To compensate for the lack of a trading station, the Borg have a structure which can convert metal into dilithium and vice versa. Species 8472 converts all three types of resources into an all-purpose "bio-matter" resource, and likewise cannot trade with other species.
The races available in campaign mode are The United Federation of Planets, The Klingon Empire, and The Borg Collective. In other methods of play, such as Multiplayer and Instant Action (Skirmish), the Cardassian Union, Romulan Star Empire, and Species 8472 are added as playable factions. There are also third-party mods for download that will add extra races.
While most races' gameplay is essentially the same, Species 8472 are different because of their biotechnology. The crew resource is not used by them; they instead use one officer per ship and have a much smaller officer limit. Since Species 8472 have no crew on board their ships, they are unable to take over enemy ships or be taken over themselves.

Star Trek: Armada
Star Trek: Armada is a real-time strategy game published in 2000 by Activision. The game's look and feel is based primarily on Star Trek: The Next Generation, and features a few of its main characters and ships. Playable factions include the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire and the Borg. The game received mixed to positive reviews and was noted for being one of the better Star Trek games to be made. A sequel, Star Trek: Armada II, was released on November 16, 2001.
Plot
The storyline references several media in the Star Trek universe, incorporating plot elements from television shows Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: The Next Generation as well as the then-recently released film Star Trek: Insurrection.Following the Dominion War, the Federation turns to rebuilding. However, a Federation timeship, the USS Premonition, suddenly appears from the future, under attack by the Borg. Captain Jean-Luc Picard, commanding the USS Enterprise-E, comes to its aid. The Premonition's captain, Thaddeus Demming, warns Picard of an upcoming Borg invasion. Picard then repels an initial Borg attack on a Federation outpost.
Elsewhere, Commander Worf assists in the defense of the Ba'ku homeworld from the Son'a, after which he is informed of the Enterprise's discovery. While traveling through a hazardous sector of space on his way back to Qo'nos, he is ambushed by his old enemy, Toral, who plans to use a fake Sword of Kahless to take over the Klingon Empire. Toral ambushes Chancellor Martok following another Borg incursion, and another Klingon civil war ensues. After a climactic battle over the Klingon homeworld, Toral is defeated. He retreats to the Neutral Zone, revealing that he was getting assistance from the Romulan Star Empire. Hostilities ensue between the Klingons and the Romulans.
The Romulans, in the meantime, come across a stable Omega Particle, a source of nearly limitless power. The particle, discovered first by a Ferengi mining guild, is about to be sold to the Cardassians; the Tal Shiar sends Admiral Sela to secure it before that happens. Sela captures the Omega Particle and, despite some Borg interference, delivers it to a fortified Romulan base. She then allies with the Borg promising the particle after they destroy Toral's remaining forces, but she then betrays and attacks them after Toral is defeated.
The Borg, wanting to secure the particle at all costs, assimilate a Dominion cloning facility and use it to clone Locutus, the former title of Jean-Luc Picard when he was assimilated. With Locutus leading their armada, the Borg take the Omega Particle from the Romulans and assimilate Ambassador Spock, who is trying to mediate between the Klingons and Romulans. Without him, the two empires go to war, and the Borg are able to enter the solar system. Locutus and his armada defeat the Federation, kill Worf and Demming, and assimilate Earth. However, Picard and the Enterprise manage to escape through a temporal vortex created by the Premonition.
Going back in time, the Enterprise prevents Spock's assimilation. Picard and Spock are able to forge an alliance among the Romulans and the Klingons, and together the three governments repel the invasion of Earth. The unified Klingon, Romulan and Federation forces push the Borg out of the Alpha Quadrant and capture a Transwarp Gate which they take to Unimatrix One, at the heart of the Borg empire. There, they discover the Omega Particle is fueling the Borg war machine. The combined force destroys the Omega Particle, but Locutus travels back in time before he can be defeated.
Back in time, Locutus, in a Borg Sphere, tries to kill Picard aboard the USS Enterprise-D shortly after the Farpoint mission. However, Locutus is thwarted by the USS Premonition which, unaffected by the changes to the timeline, pursues Locutus back in time and destroys his ship. When a battle-weary Premonition returns to the "present" and witnesses that all has returned to normal, Demming sends the ship and crew home to a brighter future. Picard ends with a positive note as a new Federation-Klingon-Romulan alliance forms.
Gameplay
Armada is a real-time strategy game in which players select a faction from the Star Trek universe and build fleets of starships and space station bases to conduct battle. Four playable factions are featured in the game: the Federation, the Klingons, the Romulans, and the Borg. A handful of ships from other Star Trek races appear in campaign missions, including Ferengi, Cardassians, Dominion, and Breen. Each faction fields six different classes of starship ranging from scout to capital ship, which also possesses a unique tactical ability. In addition to weapons and shields, players can capture one another's ships and stations. Two primary resources are used in the game: crew and dilithium. Crew is automatically generated over time via starbases. Dilithium is mined from moons by resource gatherers.
The game features a continuous campaign of 20 missions divided into five parts: one for each of the playable races and a fifth part in which the player fights against the Borg while controlling an alliance of the other three races. The game's multiplayer mode allows for skirmish battles with the computer or other players. Individual games are played out on a representative scale that is roughly equivalent to a planetary system. The player may encounter a variety of celestial bodies such as planetoids, asteroids, and nebulae, each having an effect on gameplay.

Summoner
In addition to the main storyline, there are over twenty side quests that may be completed. The game also includes an abundance of spells that are cast in real time.
Plot
Joseph is a simple farmer from the village of Ciran, who is also adept at the art of summoning. It is revealed in flashback that as a boy a man named Yago gave Joseph a magical ring. When a band of raiders attack Ciran, Joseph uses the ring to summon a Demon of Darkness to save the village. Although the demon defeats the raiders, it also kills all villagers and totally destroys Ciran. Torn between grief and hatred of his new power, Joseph discarded the ring and swore to never to invoke his powers again.Joseph resettles in the small village of Massad as a farmer, which is evenutally besieged by the forces of Orenia, a continent ruled by Emperor Murod. Murod's four Riders - Ghost, Phoenix, Serpent and Tiger - and army seek a boy born with the mark of the Summoner. After fending off soldiers and escaping by river, Joseph journeys to Lenele, the capital of Medeva. Joseph attempts to enter the royal palace to speak to his former companion, Yago (now an advisor to the King), but is taunted and rebuffed by the guards. A disguised individual notices his difficulties and offers her assistance. Introducing herself as Flece, an agent of the local crime lord, Tancred, she suggests that they infiltrate the palace via the sewers.
The pair are successful, with Yago advising them to travel to the island of Iona, where the Abbot of the Monastery holds the Ring of Light: an item Joseph will need to move against Murod. Yago also gives Joseph the Ring of Darkness, which he discarded as a boy. On Iona the pair meet with the Abbot and Rosalind, the daughter of Yago. Although reluctant to aid Joseph as Yago once abandoned her mother to search for Joseph, she is ordered by the Abbot to accompany them into the Catacombs beneathe the Great Library, where the first kings of Medeva are entombed. After battling undead warriors, the group find the tomb of Iona, the dead consort of Vadagar, god of the Earth. Also present is Sir Carados, a long lost knight and builder of the Library. Carados has gone insane, and believing he is Vadagar, attacks the group. After his defeat Joseph recovers the ring of Light.
After defeating the Ghost Rider, the trio return to Lenele. Together with Yago the group meet King Belias, Queen Galienne and the King's brother, Sornehan. King Belias commands Joseph's childhood friend Jekhar - who now hates him for inadvertently causing the destruction of Ciran - to join the group and journey to Saanavarh, the stronghold of the Khosani people. Yago advises that as the Khosani forged the rings they will have valuable advice and also possess the ring of Fire. After successfully passing several trials, the group gain the ring of Fire are informed of the history of the rings. After warding off an attack by the Phoenix Rider, the group travel to the swamp of Ikaemos. Once an ancient empire, Ikaemos was destroyed by their god's anger. To save his people from drowning, the Priest King froze his people in stone. The group find and negotiate the temple of Ikaemos, destroying the Priest King and obtaining the ring of Stone.
After a failed attempt by the Serpent Rider to kill the group, they return to Medeva to find Lenelle overrun by the Orenian forces, who were given access to the city by Sornehan. Locating Yago in the Old City, he instructs Rosalind and Jekhar to accompany the Queen to Iona for her safety, while Joseph and Flece travel to the temple of Urath. The pair arrive just as Belias is murdered by Murod' General Pijian and Sornehan crowned by a reluctant Hierophant. Joseph and Flece drive off the Tiger Rider and meet Yago in the Forge of Urath. Yago then instructs Joseph to wear all four rings and place his hand into the Forge to unite the rings. Despite Yago's guarantees that Joseph will not be harmed, his hand and the rings are destroyed - an act that frees the demons of Fire, Light and Stone. Yago reveals himself to be possessed by the demon of darkness, Machival. Machival advises Joseph that he accomplished this with the help of Flece and that he is now an Orenian prisoner.
Months later, Flece, realizing that she had been tricked by the demon of Darkness, travels to Orenia to locate Joseph. Flebe discovers that Murod is using Orenian slaves to construct a replica of the legendary Tower of Eleh. Originally made by the Children of Ghuval to siege Khossos, Murod likewise wishes to storm heaven and become lord of all creation. Using her clandestine skills, Flece finds and frees Joseph from the tower. Flece and Joseph escape and flee to the lakeside village of Wolong and meet a local healer who states how Joseph's hand can be restored. After obtaining several minor aids, Joseph is told he must now seek and ingest a rare plant located in the caverns above Wolong, and then plunge his hand into a sacred underground pool.
They reunite with Rosalind who explains that there are in fact eight rings of summoning, and that the final four rings are in Orenia. Joseph, Flece and Rosalind journey ascend a mountain overlooking the village and enter the caverns. After defeating multiple foes they locate the plant required and find the healing pool, successfully restoring Joseph's hand and retrieving the Ring of Water. The trio return to Wolong, and after defeating General Pijian and his troops encounter Aoqi and her Jade Temple troops. Aoqi reveals that she is the missing daughter of Emperor Gaodi, who was usurped by Murod. During a royal visit to Medeva, Aoqi fell in love with King Belias and they had an illegitimate daughter, Sihua. Aoqi reveals the treachery of Queen Galienne, who ordered Sihua to be killed by Tancred. The thief, however, could not bring himself to murder the child and raised her as his own. The group then reunite with Jekhar, who forgives Joseph, gives him the Ring of the Four Winds and states they must now seek the Ring of the Forest.
The party then visit the forest of Liangshan, a now-poisoned wasteland that was once occupied until a battle between a demon and a dragon. After defeating the native Oni, the Phoenix and Serpent Riders and a small force of Murod's soldiers, Joseph claims the Ring of the Forest from a priest. The party return to the Jade Temple, defeat Murod's soldiers, the Ghost and Tiger Rider, and then fight an intense battle with the Emperor himself.
After defeating Murod and retrieving the Ring of Jade, Joseph and his companions return to Medeva, now devastated by the Four Demons. Prince Sornehan and Queen Galienne, using the power of the Nhuvasarim, now rule Lenele. Expecting Joseph and Flece, the pair and their allies are actually defeated by Rosalind and Jekhar. The party then return to Saanavarh, and after assisting the Khosani with several other missions use three of the newly-forged Summoner rings to recapture the Demons of Fire, Light and Stone. Returning to Lenele, the party then confront and recapture Machival. Wearing all eight Summoner rings, Joseph then falls into the forge and is reborn as the god Urath. The threat ended, Flece becomes Empress of both Orenia and Medeva as Sihua, Rosalind and Yago return to Iona to rebuild the monastery and Jekhar remains to rebuild Medeva.
Characters
Joseph - The protagonist. Born in Ciran with the mark of the Summoner on his hand. He was given the Ring of Darkness by Yago, and once tried to use it to save his village from attack but unable to control the great power, the demon he summoned razed the village. Joseph was exiled from Ciran and travelled with Yago for a while, before throwing the dark ring down a well and running away to Masad, a sleepy town on the Darhu river. He promised himself he would forget all that happened at Ciran and never use his powers again. When Medeva is invaded Joseph is forced to find Yago, and somehow regain the power of summoning. As well as being able to summon monsters, Joseph is also a good warrior and has access to healing and fire magic. At the conclusion of the game, Joseph reunites all the demons and dragons, and becomes the reborn form of the god, Urath. Or as an alternate ending, players have the option to ignore his destiny and walk away.
Flece - Flece was brought up as an orphan in the "Old City" district of Lenele where crime was prevalent. She now works for Tancred, who has crowned himself "King of Fleas" and controls Lenele's underground. Later in the game, she is revealed to be result of a tryst between Princess Qifeng, and King Bellias, thus making her the heir to the thrones of both Orenia and Medeva. She appears once briefly in the sequel looking for Rosalind of Iona.
Rosalind - Estranged daughter of Yago. She studies Aosi, the language of Creation and is the party's primary spellcaster. She originally joins reluctantly by order of Abbot Laurent, but in the end is the one who compels Joseph to accept his destiny. She plays a minor but important part in the second game and seemingly appears to Maia, the sequel's main character in a dream sequence. Later Maia and her father, Yago, learn that she was consumed by the Destroyer of Eleh aided by its agent Krobelus. The Tempest takes her form and Rosalind is no more.
Jekhar - Joseph's childhood friend whose family was murdered in the massacre caused by the demon unleashed by Joseph. Jekhar is now a soldier living in Lenele working under King Belias VI. He hates Joseph, but is ordered by King Belias VI to join in Joseph's quest for the rings, instead of helping fight off the invasion. As a result, he does not help Joseph as compared to Joseph's other comrades. When Fleece asks Jekhar to help her rescue a one-handed Joseph from life imprisonment, he turns his back and instead decides to stay on Iona guarding the queen of Medeva. He appears once briefly in the sequel alongside Flece, but it is only a cameo and he is left unnamed.
Murod - formerly the leader of the society of the jade temple, Murod betrayed the emperor, murdered his family, and seized the throne of Orenia. Murod has enslaved his people to rebuild tower of Eleh and install himself as the emperor of Heaven. Because of the jade temple's prophecy, Murod has invaded Medeva to find the summoner.
Extras
- After completing the game and viewing the credits, a computer animated version of the Dungeons and Dragons sketch titled "Summoner Geeks" plays automatically.
